Important: If you are not familiar with Portfolio IQ, we recommend you review the Portfolio IQ Overview page. It will provide you with a working knowledge of the Portfolio IQ area.

We are at the very beginning of the life cycle in the Initiation phase with a focus on capturing the ideas and/or business challenges.  While not all ideas will result in the creation of proposals and eventually projects, the capture of all ideas provides a central point for documenting and managing them and ensuring that the best ideas are not forgotten but can become approved as proposals and projects. The focus at this stage is focused on the capture and management of the Ideas.

Here are a few practical tips:

  • Portfolio IQ can capture Ideas, which may or may not become projects.  In some organizations, the Ideas may simply be a list used to capture ideas for future consideration, while other organizations may associate ideas with Business Challenges to further review and manage which ideas should become proposals, and eventually projects.
  • Ideas. While there are no hard and fast rules for when an idea should be created an idea should be captured whenever someone has a good suggestion that may warrant further investigation to determine potential organizational benefits.
  • And to help ensure that only the best ideas receive that additional investment there is a process flow to gate which ideas are reviewed and considered as proposals and projects, and which ones should be left behind.
