Power BI Fundamentals (07:27)

In Sensei IQ, there are many Power BI reports called Insights which allow you to monitor work and exceptions over all elements that exist for Strategy, Portfolio/Programs, Innovations, Intake, Projects, and Work.

All Sensei IQ Insights reports offer a variety of ways to navigate to report pages and drill through to detail pages:

  • Depending on the design of the report, there may be summary cards that link directly to other pages represented by the tabs at the bottom.
  • Each report page can also be opened directly by clicking on the tab at the bottom.
  • Detailed pages are available when the drill through option appears in the right click menu.
  • These detailed report pages provide all of the details specific to the record they were accessed from.
  • The project status report page demonstrates another Power BI feature allowing you to select different views from the report header – in this case, Overview, Details, Tracking, and Financials.

All of the report pages are also accessible directly through Power BI where you have more features available to you where you can export the report to other formats for distribution or further analysis.

All reports have a variety of filter options.  In each report header, there are filters called Slicers, allowing single and multiple selections from the list of available values.  These filters can be reset by clicking on the associated eraser and all these filters an be used individually or in any combination to show data as needed.

Tip: If needed, you can also select multiple values within each slicer by using the control key.

Power BI reports also provide cross-filtering.  This means that all the visualizations, cards, lists, and charts will update simultaneously as filters are applied or reset.

Data can be further analyzed using the drill up, drill down, expand, and collapse options when available in the right-click menu.  This is helpful to reduce the amount of data showing or to target a specific group of data.

Another Power BI feature appears on the Key Dates report page.  On this page, you can view the key dates as a list or in a calendar view by simply using the toggle option at the top. Additional information is provided through tooltips.

Tooltips appear as you mouse over values on the report. Tooltips can provide basic or detailed information.  When you mouse over a project, the tooltip shows you the contents of the last status report entered by the project manager. This provides valuable insight on the project with zero clicks!

Insights reports allow you to link back to the data in Sensei IQ for easy review and updating.  This is done by clicking on the name in the header of a project status report or by clicking on the link icon next to a specific record. Each record accessed opens a new tab in your browser allowing you to easily return to the insights report where you left off. These direct links to the data provide a very efficient and time saving way to review and maintain your project data.
