- Validate key dates and deliverables;
- Monitor project dates and support items;

Important: If you are not familiar with Project IQ, we recommend you review the Projects and Work areas overview page. It will provide you with a working knowledge of the Projects area.
As your project continues during the Executing phase, the focus at this stage is to help you understand how to keep your project schedule and all support items up to date and reflective of the status.
Here are a few practical tips:
- Everyone on the project team can update the status of the Tasks they are working on. Progress for each task may be updated by either directly setting the % complete field or by tracking and updating task effort completed and effort remaining. Successor tasks will be automatically rescheduled based on these updates for all active tasks.
- Once all team members have updated their progress, you need to review, validate, and update any impacted Key Dates and Deliverables for the project. This will involve validating the status and adjusting as needed to accurately reflect the project’s status versus the project stakeholders’ expectations.
- Next the status and dates for all the support items, such as Issues, Risks, etc. need to be reviewed and updated as appropriate to reflect the current schedule.
- If your project is using Projects to manage project financials, you will need to record Actual Costs incurred in the current period and update the remaining forecasts, again to reflect the current plan.
- While typically not required every time progress is tracked on a project, at times it may be necessary to realign the resource requests to the project schedule to ensure they continue to accurately define the resource requirements for the project.
- With the project schedule and all supporting items current and aligned, it is important to set the appropriate project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to reflect the status of Deliverables, Schedule, Financials, Work, Issues, Risks, Change Requests, and overall Project health. Each status element may be set to one of three values: On Track (Green), On Watch (Yellow) or Troubled (Red). We also recommend you compose a brief status narrative to help the project stakeholders understand why each KPI was set the way it was.
- And finally, we recommend producing and reviewing the project status report to ensure that it accurately reflects the current project status.
