Important: If you are not familiar with Strategy IQ, we recommend you review the Strategy IQ Overview page. It will provide you with a working knowledge of the Strategy IQ area.

Strategy IQ builds on Project and Portfolio Management and completes the support for Portfolio, Program and Project Leadership, Business Insights and Decision Support, Enterprise Resource Management and most specifically Strategic Planning and Benefits Realization.

The focus at this stage is to help you understand how to create and maintain strategic themes, including goals and benefits and associating them with the appropriate portfolios, programs and projects required to deliver the results to satisfy the overall theme’s objectives.

Here are a few practical tips:

  • Strategy IQ allows your organization to prioritize and align all delivery work with organizational objectives and then measure and validate that the approved work is delivering the expected benefits.
  • Strategic Themes allow you to align project work with organizational initiatives and objectives.  Or perhaps, a Theme is a specific result that you are responsible for delivering to executive management.
  • As themes are typically very high level, next we break the theme down into more discrete, and measurable Goals.  While a strategic goal can be associated with only one theme, a theme can, and typically does, have multiple goals.  In addition to helping achieve the theme, you can define quantifiable targets for achieving the goal.
  • Finally, benefits are identified to allow you to define how the goal will be achieved through more detailed benefits, which also have quantifiable targets.
